"Murukkus (South Indian snacks) posses their own unique vocabulary of textures, coils, tangles and patterns. Often they use moulds, but sometimes, they are expertly shaped by hand with a pinch and twist technique. 'Kai Murukku' is a personal piece designed to resemble a thin roll of dough pinched between finger tips at equal lengths to form a wave pattern. I layered it with grooves for textural interest. Even as it explores South Indian food aesthetics, it is versatile. You can wear it to work, for casual outings and travel with it. More often than not, when I conceptualise jewellery, I end up thinking of a female wearer. A few pieces from my collection, such as this one, made me break free from my own binary thinking. I made this, not just for women, but for anyone with a penchant for contemplative jewellery that appreciates the beauty of ordinary things."
